OUR TEAM

Our team

Established in 2009, person to person counselling is small enough to be personal and responsive whilst offering a range of experienced therapists to fit your needs. We work with individuals seeking long or short term therapy; as well as businesses and educational establishments that want to offer a therapeutic support service to their employees. We have provided workplace counselling services through East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust. We also offer therapy and clinical supervision to therapists in training. Our counsellors practice from a range of locations across Brighton.

Lesley Hurst PG Dip. MBACP

I decided to become a counsellor after working in bereavement support in 2006. My core practice is rooted in the humanistic approach and I have expanded my learning through further training to include the CBT model, creative approaches to the therapeutic process and the practice of mindfulness.

My aim is to provide a safe and caring therapeutic relationship where painful life events and restricting patterns can be explored and a connection to self can be strengthened. I am increasingly interested in the practice of mindfulness in helping us to create a space between ourselves and our thoughts and gain more control over our responses.

Having life-long experience of being multi-cultural I appreciate the complexities of integrating in unfamiliar environments. This process of adjusting can translate to dealing with many of life’s challenges. My belief is that counselling can be a non-judgemental space where these issues can be explored.

I have been providing counselling since 2007, offering sessions in both English and Italian. I work from a person centred perspective, meaning I am guided by each client’s needs in creating an empathic space to facilitate healing and self-acceptance.

Since qualifying as a Person-Centred Counsellor in 2009 further training and experience has influenced my approach to therapy, to allow me to tailor my approach to suit the needs of each individual client. I place an emphasis on creating a therapeutic relationship which allows clients to move at their own pace in working through their experiences and feelings.

I the past 7 years I have undertaken extensive further training in modern approaches to trauma.

Many of my clients are men and I have increasingly worked with male clients on issues including self-identity, building relationships, retirement, relationship breakdown and many aspects of childhood trauma.

I am a supervisor of counsellors and psychotherapists in individual and group settings.

Our practitioners have all undertaken rigorous trainings, are registered members of professional organisations and are pursuing their own ongoing professional development. Each therapist is required to be in clinical supervision (professional consultation) in accordance with standards set by BACP. This ensures careful scrutiny of all clinical work and ensures the best possible service to clients of the centre.

TESTIMONIAL

I have worked with Person to Person Counselling for over a year having contacted them to support some of our clients living within the Brighton locality.

As a counselling service Person to Person counselling have been approachable, accommodating and professional with all aspects of our working relationship including negotiation, contracting, fees and communication, I would recommend the service to individuals and other professional services alike.

Having three professional counsellors has meant our clients can be seen by the most appropriate therapist.   Individually Lesley, Manuela and Rob provide an excellent counselling service, our clients have all given positive feedback for accessibility, confidentiality, respect  and improvement in wellbeing.
